What to do when your roof leaks

Simple steps to limit damage inside, and what to note down before you call a roofer.

First, protect the inside

Move furniture and valuables away from the drip, put down a bucket and towels, and if water is near light fittings, switch off that circuit at the consumer unit.

Do not go onto the roof yourself, especially in wet or windy weather.

Note what you can see

Where is the water appearing? Does it happen in all rain or only in wind-driven rain? Can you see missing tiles, a slipped slate or damaged flashing from the ground?

Photos from inside and from the garden help a roofer understand the problem before visiting.

Get it looked at

Small leaks rarely fix themselves and can soak insulation and timbers. Send us the details and photos and Albert can talk you through the next step.
